Diamonds in Botswana: Achieving Scholarships for High School Students

Diamond Age

In a partnership between the Diamond Empowerment Fund and Botswana’s Ministry of Education, high school students will have the opportunity to receive funds to attend universities. Known as the Top Achievers Program, it had already received $50,000 last year, and has now received an additional $100,000.

Diamond producing countries in Africa are of interest to the fund, which hopes to inspire future leaders to continue development in their countries. “Affording these young, talented students the opportunity to be exposed to rigorous curriculum focused on development, macro-economics, political theory and social entrepreneurship will further the growth in our country for generations,” said the governor of the Bank of Botswana.

The students are given the choice of any university around the world, and will return to Botswana to aid the growth efforts. The Diamond Empowerment Fund also has campuses in Johannesburg, South Africa that help with leadership and teaching skills.
