Panama’s IFARHU Initiates 2013 Scholarship Contest

Flag_of_Panama.svgThe Institute for Training and Development of Human Resources (IFARHU) in the Republic of Panama launched its 2013 General Scholarship Contest on Monday, January 14. The application deadline is February 25.

The IFARHU was established on January 11, 1965, and has ever since functioned as an institute which promotes advancement of education and development of the country. It offers scholarships to gifted students and to those who come from low-income backgrounds. It thus encourages the youth to further their education.

Panamanian students at different levels of education and from different types of economic and educational programs benefit greatly from the IFARHU’s financial support.

The Scholarship Contest starting on Monday is designed to attract applications from students of public and private schools. Primary and middle premedia students, with GPA over 4.5, can apply for scholarships. Official university students with a minimum GPA of 2.0 can also turn in their applications to pursue bachelor or graduate degrees.

The IFARHU also supports students from low-income backgrounds if they demonstrate aptitude for academic excellence. Thus, many IFARHU programs are designed to promote education among the poor. These include: the General Contest for Primary (for students of second-degree official schools), General Contest for Pre-Media and Media Education (for official schools in the Republic), and General Contest for Higher Education Universities Officers (for students who wish to continue to college and earn degrees from the Republic’s public universities).

Effectively, the IFARHU takes responsibility to train Panama’s human capital, so that qualified Panamanian students and professionals can contribute to the development of the country.
